  1. After listening to your discussion of Small Problems, I re-watched the episode, and I side with Mike on this one. It’s about an average episode. Kevin had some good points to make, but I can’t give this one more than 2.5 Crystal Castles. It is your standard shrinking plot, but I do like the angle that Glimmer embellishes what happened with The Horde. But one issue I had with that sequence was it was difficult to tell what they were trying to convey. Both times I watched it I completely missed what happened after the discussion with Cowl and Bow. I rewound to watch that sequence a third time on my second viewing and determined that the animation was at fault for not conveying what the heck was going on. I liked that we saw so many Horde troopers, but the sequence was difficult to follow. Other animation fell prey to this as well. The frog sequence and sound effect were terrible. They combined a “ribbit” with an actual frog call. And it was cool seeing “Hose Nose” but it was pointless. They could just have easily gone for a swim. But I liked that Spirit was too weak to carry them both when they were shrunken.

Book Burning I am going to disagree with you both. I enjoyed it more than Small Problems. I went into it with the same lowered expectations that you did. It’s a simple plot, but I don’t feel it is out of place in She-Ra. The Horde is trying to control and brainwash the people of Etheria, just as Adora herself had been misled. As the episode went on, I found myself engaged. The action sequences were well staged and the animation worked much better here. It was also nice seeing so many Etherians in this episode. The paper airplane in the mouth was a nice touch, to bring some humor to this one. As for the hoods Bow and Adora wore, that was disturbing and creepy, but the intention, I think, was to illustrate that they were hiding their identities. Because when the kid found out who they were, he radioed to The Horde that he was following the “rebel lovers” to their camp. I rewound that part because I wasn’t sure if he was considering Bow and Adora lovers, or rebel sympathizers. That would have worked better if they had made it clear that they were hiding from The Horde. I’m giving this one a slightly above average 3.5 Crystal Castles.

I will watch The Eldritich Mist later. I wish you were following the DVD order rather than air date order so I didn’t have to shuffle discs. :)
