25th Anniversary of Batman Beyond!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. In my 10th entry, I’ll be talking about the 25th Anniversary of Batman Beyond! A number of years ago now I ranked my Top 20 Favorite Batman Beyond episodes, you can find that HERE! As well as my 20th anniversary write up from 2019, read that HERE! And NO I will not be repeat, repeat, repeating myself from the 20th anniversary post! Also I just realized that it’s been a DECADE since Steve and I interviewed Kristopher, Lolita, and Michael! Time for an update!!! You can hear that interview HERE!

January 10, 1999 the debut of Batman Beyond on The WB… 25 Years Ago today…. And 25 years later I still love this show! So why do a 25th Anniversary post? Well number one I’m not sure people give this show enough credit for the psychological aspects that are in some of the episodes. In 1999 animation was all about ACTION! Especially SUPERHERO ACTION, but with what my life has been I see all the little things in this cartoon series. There are storylines about parents putting too much pressure on their kids to excel in school…. High standards type stuff, there’s an episode all about runaway kids, and being a ward of the state… and so on. So this show has always been more than just ACTION to me! Last Year in 2023 Dynamic Music Partners and their Dynamic Soundtrack Records Label finally released BATMAN BEYOND VOLUME 1!:

THIS is the main reason why I’m writing this 25th anniversary post for BATMAN BEYOND! 95 Tracks covering many SEASON ONE episodes of the show! (If not ALL OF THEM)! Which leads me to believe that there will be a VOLUME 2, at least I hope there will be! However here in Volume One we have soooo much music. Especially with there being 95 tracks it’s a complete score for season one! I love the music from the Golem episode, and finally to have the Shriek episode music!!! That was a treat hearing outside the cartoon. I love anytime that they do the legendary themes for Batman and the old show or they find ways to make you remember those moments. The track “Bruce Hires Go-Fer” that ending swell of music is something I’ve always wanted and now it’s here!

There are moments in this music that you just don’t expect. Like the track “Terry’s Fast Asleep” it’s a slower, quieter piece of music, but it gives so much character depth to him. Music can be anything, and it can fit anything. And I think I love the subtlety that Kristopher Carter, Lolita Ritmanis, Michael McCuistion, and the late Shirley Walker give to the music. In the Shriek episode we start with the track “Sound Suit Intro” which brings your ears to attention, and then we get “Bruce’s Historic District” which is the complete opposite end of the spectrum of music that this show has. Once again show the versatility and wide range that this score inhabits. “Shriek Hurts Bruce” is once again a track I’ve been wanting to hear outside the show for the past twenty five years! It’s this weirdly catchy bomb a sivvv kinda sound…. I don’t even know what that means, but you’ll have to take my word for it. It’s very cool! One more on the Shriek episode, “Who Really Is Batman?” this track is a mixture of the techno and the classic music, and it works so damn well.

I’m not gonna go through all the tracks in this write up, but expect a podcast ep sometime this year detailing this amazing score! Between the techno that Kristopher brings, to the emotional moments from Lolita, and some of the great action cues from Michael… These Dynamic Music Partners are amazing!

We are in 2024 now, Bruce Timm has stated that Batman Beyond is 50 years in the future of whenever now is. However we know that there is an actual timeline to the series. Back in 2019 I watched a YouTube video attempting to figure it all out, and just as it did back then my brain hurts now. My point in adding this at the end here is that 2039, the year the continuity supposedly starts, is fifteen years away in real life. Will we have futuristic cities, cars, and other stuff by then? Who knows!?! What is your favorite piece of music from Batman Beyond Season 1? And what are some of your memories of the Batman Beyond animated series? Do you, or have you been reading the comics? Let me know in the comments below!

Join me tomorrow morning January 11, 2024 as I’ll be writing about something!
