TFG1MIKE 365 – 2023 Day 38
I LOVE FUNKO, BUT… is Funko Too Much Meh Now?
Hello all and welcome back to TFG1Mike 365! It’s Day 23 of 2023!!! New Year brings new hopes and dreams to all of us I think. In case you haven’t read any of my blogs before, you can find all the blogs over at FROM THE DESK OF TFG1Mike! Normally my goal with this series is to wake up each new day, and find something on the internet, or in real life to write about. Today it’s another Funko blog!
I’ve enjoyed and had love for Funko since I found them in late 2016, early 2017. My approach to Funko collecting was and IS getting the CHARACTERS I LOVE, apparently I love too many characters as you can see from the above photo. I’m no completionist when it comes to Funko anything, whether that be pops, sodas, or anything that they make. And lately over the last two years I see them releasing stuff everywhere, and 98% of it either I don’t want, or it’s not in my collecting style, or my fandoms. I understand that Funko is a publicly traded company now, and that they need to be making that money, but damn there are too many anime pops! The only anime pops I want from them are the Yu-Gi-Oh! ones, and I do have several of those. However it seems like Funko is stuck on the anime teet, as well as Marvel and Star Wars. Transformers Funko pops are barely talked about, and putting them behind the NFT wall…?? UGH! I don’t wanna turn this into a rant.
My Transformers Funko pop collection, as you see above. I never wanted multiples of each character, but in the case of Optimus and Soundwave, they are different molds, or a larger and smaller figure. That Soundwave 10″ Figure WITH THE CASSETTES I did have to have that one. As far as the regular sized Soundwave, I felt the shattered tape deck door was more interesting for me. The Optimi pops, I was only gonna get the Game Stop Exclusive Energy Axe one, but the Amazon Exclusive one was very much more cartoon accurate coilors, and the metallic was awesome on him! Obviously Nemesis Prime is a slightly different character, and my friend the late great Gary Clark aka Optimus Scourge was the inspiration for me having that!
Seriously though there are very few BRAND NEW Funko pops that I actually want, hence why part of this post’s title is all about Funko becoming meh for me. I love the characters I’ve collected, and I love the newer types of Funko products like the albums, and holiday moments… I think those are really cool display pieces. This Saturday will be the first Funko Soda Saturday on the site, so stay Tooned for that!
Join me tomorrow morning February 8, 2023 as I’ll be writing about something.
