TFG1Mike’s TV Series Talk: Arrow Pilot Premiere

TFG1Mike’s TV Series Talk

Arrow

Season 1

Pilot Premiere

After the end of Smallville, we all wondered what super hero would replace the void on The CW. Some were hoping for a Bruce Wayne or Batman TV Series, and others were thinking of Green Lantern, or Wonder Woman. (Thank god that failed WW pilot died!) However on October 10, 2012 we were given the answer in Arrow! Ever since I was a kid I always liked Green Arrow. He was cool, calm, collected, and yet had a dark side to him. Green Arrow essentially is the Robin Hood of the DC Universe, but that adds to his character. When I heard about this new series I was really stoked for it.

Plot:

In the pilot episode we get the backstory of Oliver Queen, and what happened to him while he was missing/thought to be dead for 5 years. The story in the first episode of the series is very well thought out, and pacing is right on target. Throughout the pilot we get glimpses into what happened during the 5 years Oliver and his father were at sea. As he has returned the news media makes a huge story out of it. We find that he has a plan of recalaiming the city from the crooks. I really loved all the story bits, and hints at GA lore.

Action and Effects:

In only one episode so far Arrow has delivered on some great action. The special effects are very minimal, and I love that. The stunts are well executed, and the way Ollie handles the bow is awesome.

Cast:

The cast includes the following actors and actresses:

Main Cast

Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Arrow

Most will know him from Queer as Folk, Heartland, Private Practice. I think he is a much better Green Arrow/Oliver Queen, then Justin Hartley was in Smallville.

Katie Cassidy as Dinah “Laurel” Lance

Most will know Katie from Supernatural as Ruby, Click, Black Christmas, Gossip Girl, and more. I will say until Tommy called her Dinah in the premiere, I had no idea that was her. I guess I’m not up to speed on the Lance family names lol

Colin Donnell as Tommy Merlyn

You might not know this guy’s work, but most might recognize him from the short lived ABC series Pan Am.

David Ramsey as John Diggle

Most people will know him from Con Air, CSI, Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, and more.

Willa Holland as Thea Queen/Speedy

Most people will know Willa from playing Kaitlin Cooper in the FOX Series The O.C. She has also been in Gossip Girl, and did the voice of Aqua in a few Kingdom Hearts video games

Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen

Ms. Thompson has been in three Star Trek Series, L.A. Law, CSI, NCIS, NYPD Blue, and so much more.

Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance

Most people will know Mr. Blackthorne from The Dresden Files, 24, E.R., Monk, and more

Colin Salmon as Walter Steele

Ahh yesss Charles Robinson from the Peirce Brosnan era Bond films! People will also know him from the first Resident Evil film, Dr. Who as Dr. Moon, and many other tv and film projects.

Final Thoughts:

Arrow proves to be a hit for The CW in my mind. After the premiere ended last night, I wanted more right then and there. My Wednesday nights are filled with TV goodness now. Between Arrow, Law & Order SVU, and Chiacgo Fire. Wednesdays for me will not be boring. Arrow proves to be a unique story about the awesome DC hero. The ending of the pilot was such a cliffhanger! You can watch the pilot on The CW website.  I have tried not to spoil the premiere for anyone that hasn’t seen it. All I can say is that you must see this. Between the awesome action, fantastic story telling, and more Arrow is an amazing successor to Smallville.
