TV Series Talk:
The Americans is FX’s latest Original Series TV show. I’d first started seeing ads for it about three weeks ago. It looked AMAZING!!!!
General Plot:
The Americans is an American television series which premiered on January 30, 2013, on the FX network. It is a 1980s Cold War drama about a group of Soviet KGB officers who have been trained to impersonate American citizens, so that each one can become a sleeper agent, with a cover which may even include an unwitting spouse and family.
Cast
Matthew Rhys as Phillip Jennings
Keri Russell as Elizabeth Jennings
Noah Emmerich as Stan Beeman
Keidrich Sellati as Henry Jennings
Holly Taylor as Paige Jennings
Maximiliano Hernandez as FBI Agent Chris Amador
Margo Martindale as Claudia, the Jennings KGB supervisor
The pilot was a 90 minute episode, and tells the story of Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings. In the pilot it flashes between the 60s when the two were first put on assignment with each other, and present day 1981. I love this style of television writing. Just how they show us what is going on in the here and now, and also showing us how it all began.
Granted the only two people I recognize in the cast are Keri Russell and Noah Emmerich, but I think that is enough. However I’m loving the rest of the cast. Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell have great chemistry as Phillip and Elizabeth. I really don’t want to spoil the pilot, but the story telling is so damn good. Part of the premise is that the Jennings hide the fact that they are KGB agents from their kids.
Final Thoughts:
IF you like spy shows such as Alias, films like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and all manner of spy themed film and television, you’ll love this new show from FX. I am so looking forward to each new episode!!!! I like this show so much, I might blog about each new ep every week!!! You can catch The Americans Wednesday nights 10pm Eastern, 9pm Central on FX!!
